I am a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Politics at New York University. My research analyzes the relation between political rulers and their generals. I am interested in the conditions under which civilians can expect blind submission of those holding the monopoly of violence, regardless of whether they agree with the orders they receive or of their ideological alignment with the ruler.
My dissertation investigates the agency problem between civilians and a heterogeneous military, and the conditions under which self-interested men on horseback prefer not to rule themselves. |
